@Sadiq290, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Power Issue with HP Pavilion Gaming 15 (AMD Ryzen 7)!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
If your HP Pavilion Gaming 15 laptop is randomly going to sleep or shutting down when you plug it into power, here are several troubleshooting steps you can attempt:
Check Power Plan Settings:
- Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
- Select Change plan settings next to your selected power plan.
- Choose Change advanced power settings.
- In the Power options window, expand Sleep and ensure that the Sleep after, Hibernate after, and Hybrid sleep settings are configured properly.
Update BIOS and Drivers:
- Ensure that your BIOS and system drivers are updated to the latest version. You can do this using the HP Support Assistant.
- To update using HP Support Assistant:
- Open HP Support Assistant from the Start menu or download it from HP's website.
- Check for updates and install all available updates.
Check for Operating System Updates:
- Ensure that your Windows operating system is fully up to date. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.
Run HP Hardware Diagnostics:
- HP provides hardware diagnostic tools that can be accessed either through the HP Support Assistant or by pressing F2 at startup.
- Run these diagnostics to check if any hardware issues contribute to this behavior.
Check the Battery and Power Adapter:
- Verify that your battery and power adapter are functioning correctly. An aged or malfunctioning battery can cause power issues. Consider testing with another compatible HP power adapter if available.
Disable Link State Power Management:
- Open Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
- Select Change plan settings next to your selected power plan.
- Choose Change advanced power settings.
- In the Power options window, expand PCI Express and set Link State Power Management to Off.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!

I did all you told me, upon updating the bios, the laptop shut down itself, i waited for about an hour it didn't turn on. When i turn it on, it
stuck in the bios update image verification.......it turn off by itself upon completion.....Now im stuck there

@Sadiq290, Thanks for the update, and I’m really sorry to hear you’re still stuck — I know how frustrating that can be.
Since your laptop is freezing or shutting off during the BIOS update process, here's what I suggest trying next:
1. Perform a Hard Reset:
Turn off the laptop completely.
Disconnect the charger and remove any external devices.
Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to drain any residual power.
Plug the charger back in and try powering on.
2. BIOS Recovery Mode (Key Combo):
Turn off the laptop.
Hold Windows + B keys (or Windows + V on some models), then press and hold the power button for about 2–3 seconds, then release the power button (but keep holding the keys for another 5–10 seconds).
This should trigger BIOS recovery. If successful, the screen will show the BIOS recovery process.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!

@Sadiq290, Thanks for the update — I’m really glad the BIOS recovery worked!
As for the issue where your laptop turns off when you plug in the charger, you’re right — this could be a hardware-related problem, but let’s rule out a few more things first:
Try This:
Check Power Settings
Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.
Look for "Processor Power Management" and "Sleep" settings — make sure nothing unusual is set to trigger sleep or shutdown when switching to AC power.
Test with a Different Charger
If you have access to another compatible HP charger, try it briefly. A faulty charger or power jack might be causing sudden shutdowns.
Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
Restart your laptop and immediately press Esc repeatedly, then F2 for diagnostics. Run the Power and Battery tests, especially if you suspect a hardware issue.
Just a couple of questions to help narrow it down:
Does the laptop shut off instantly or behave like it’s going to sleep (fan/lights stay on briefly)?
Is this happening only when battery is low, or even at high charge levels?
Let’s figure this out together — you're doing great so far!
If our solution hit the spot, please click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left as that would make our day!
Take care, and have an incredible day ahead!

i actually already changed some settings in the advanced power settings but still didn't work, i then restored it to default settings, still didn't work. i tried different charger with the same power output of 150W but same didn't work. i ran the HP hardware diagnostics test but is showing everything is working fine. here is the screecshot.
the laptop doesn't shut off instantly, it allows me to work with it for like a minute or 2 and then it goes to sleep, sometimes shutdown down completely. it happens at both low and high charge levels, as far as i will plug in power, it will start doing this.
there are somethings that i notice which are: my battery drains fast, the laptop gets hot in like 30min i start using it and both of my fans are working, the charger power adaptor connector gets hot.
this the charger power adaptor connector that gets hot.
i think this might help in figuring out the issue. Thank you
