OMEN by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop 16-k0000 (594K2AV)

I've had this issue for a while now it started around the time when I had to sent my laptop in for repairs because my display was cracked and wasn't working anymore. Since then I've been able to use my computer fine for regular day to day task expect when it comes to gaming. Whenever i tried to play a game my pc would either crash stating it was a display error or drivers issue or the most common occurrence  just straight up go black screen after a bit of time. This usually happens after a couple of minutes of me actually playing the game in most games not when I'm in the launcher of the game or the menu within the game itself only when I actively start playing. I've updated all my drivers through hp support and Nvidia and I realized that when it was in battery mode I could play games be it at significantly lower quality then plugged in which helped me realize that my pc crashes while playing games while my main gpu is active is there a way to fix this on my own or do I need to ship it back again to repair it.

Hi @Vexarius

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating this must be, especially since your OMEN 16-k0000 was recently repaired. The fact that your laptop works fine for regular tasks but crashes when gaming suggests a GPU-related issue, possibly tied to power delivery or thermal management.

Troubleshooting Steps:

1. Check Power Settings

  • Open Control PanelPower Options.
  • Select High Performance Mode.
  • Click Change plan settingsChange advanced power settings.
  • Under PCI Express, set Link State Power Management to Off.

2. Update BIOS & GPU Drivers

3. Adjust NVIDIA Control Panel Settings

  • Open NVIDIA Control PanelManage 3D Settings.
  • Set Power Management Mode to Prefer Maximum Performance.
  • Disable V-Sync and G-Sync (if applicable).

4. Monitor GPU Temperatures

  • Use HWMonitor or MSI Afterburner to check GPU temps.
  • If temperatures exceed 85°C, consider repasting the GPU or cleaning the cooling system.

5. Test with an External Monitor

  • Connect your laptop to an external display.
  • If the external monitor works fine, the issue may be with the internal display hardware.

Let me know how it goes, and I’ll be happy to assist further! I appreciate your patience while we work through this.

I've tried all five of your solutions and the one that sorted of solved the problem was solution 3#. After doing solution 3 I was able to play games normally for a little while but then the crashes started happening again. This time instead of always going black sometimes the application will just close and state and give me message stating my graphics card is unsupported and then crash with a blue screen error message stating driver power state failure.

Thanks for all your efforts and patience!!

Since adjusting the NVIDIA Control Panel settings helped somewhat, but most games still crash when the GPU is active, let's explore additional solutions to stabilize performance.

Step 1: Perform a Clean GPU Driver Installation

  1. Download Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU).
  2. Boot into Safe Mode and run DDU to remove all NVIDIA drivers.
  3. Restart and install the latest NVIDIA drivers from their official website.
  4. Disable GeForce Experience’s automatic optimizations to prevent unwanted settings changes.

Step 2: Adjust Windows Graphics Settings

  1. Open Settings > System > Display > Graphics Settings.
  2. Under Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling, toggle it ON.
  3. Scroll down to Graphics Performance Preference, select your game, and set it to High Performance.

Step 3: Check Power Delivery & Battery Mode Behavior

  • Since games run better on battery mode, but crash when plugged in, this could indicate power delivery issues.
  • Try using a different power adapter or test with a lower wattage charger to see if behavior changes.
  • In NVIDIA Control Panel, set Battery Boost to OFF under Manage 3D Settings.

Step 4: Disable Overlays & Background Processes

  • Disable NVIDIA Overlay, Steam Overlay, and Discord Overlay.
  • Open Task Manager and end unnecessary background processes before launching a game.

Step 5: Test with an External Monitor Again

  • If the laptop does not crash when gaming on an external monitor, the issue may be with the internal display hardware or power delivery to the screen.

If none of these steps fully resolve the issue, it may require hardware-level diagnostics. Let me know what results you get, and I can refine the troubleshooting further!
