Hello,
I purchased my HP All-In-One approximately 4–5 years ago, and it had been functioning well until about a year or two ago. Since then, it has intermittently experienced a black screen issue—no error messages or cursor, just a sudden loss of display. The only way to recover from this is by performing a hard restart.
Initially, this occurred infrequently, but over time the issue has become more persistent. Currently, the screen goes black roughly every 20 minutes, sometimes even within 5–10 minutes of booting up.
I have run all available diagnostics through both the HP Diagnostics app and the BIOS-level tools, and all tests report that the system is functioning normally. I’ve also ensured that Windows 11 and all drivers are fully up to date. Additionally, I attempted a full system reset, but the problem persists.
Do you have any insights into what might be causing this issue or suggestions for further troubleshooting?
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Best regards,
Daniel

Hi @dodzio999,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Let’s walk through a step-by-step troubleshooting plan to help isolate and potentially resolve the black screen issue on your HP All-in-One. Since you've already done diagnostics and a system reset, we'll go deeper into hardware and system-level checks.
Step 1: Test with an External Monitor
Goal: Determine if the issue is with the internal display or the system itself.
- Connect an external monitor via HDMI or DisplayPort.
- Boot the system and use Windows + P to switch to “Duplicate” or “Second screen only.”
- Observe if the external display also goes black.
🔍 If the external monitor stays on, the issue is likely with the internal display or its connection. 🔍 If both go black, the issue is deeper—likely GPU, power, or motherboard-related.
Step 2: Check for Overheating
Goal: Rule out thermal shutdowns.
- Download and install HWMonitor or Core Temp.
- Monitor CPU and GPU temperatures.
- If temperatures exceed 90°C before the screen goes black, overheating is likely the cause.
🧼 Clean vents and fans with compressed air. 🧊 Consider reapplying thermal paste if you're comfortable opening the device.
Step 3: BIOS Reset and Update
Goal: Eliminate firmware glitches.
- Reboot and press Esc or F10 to enter BIOS.
- Choose “Restore Defaults” or “Load Setup Defaults”.
- Save and exit.
- Then, visit HP’s support site and check for a BIOS update for your model.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
